Overtime Calculator 2026 — Over or Under Your Monthly Norm

At the end of the month many shift workers wonder whether they're over or under their monthly norm. Here's exactly how it works in 2026.

What counts as overtime?

Overtime is any work performed beyond the normal working time — 8 hours/day and 40 hours/week. In shift work, overtime is calculated against the total monthly norm. Any hour worked above the norm is an overtime hour. The law caps overtime at a maximum of 32 extra hours per week.

How is it compensated? (time off or 75% supplement)

  1. Paid time off: Overtime hours are compensated with paid time off within the following 90 calendar days.
  2. Pay supplement (minimum 75%): If time-off compensation is not possible within 90 days, a supplement of at least 75% of base salary per overtime hour is paid.

Practical worked example

Overtime hour value with 75% supplement: 30 + (75% × 30) = 52.50 RON/hour
Total overtime pay: 10 × 52.50 = 525 RON gross
